Buddy the Beaver announced as official mascot of the 2019 Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw
“We are excited to announce the 2019 Grey Cup Festival Mascot,” says Geordie Macleod, Executive Director of the 2019 Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw. “We took our time to ensure we found just the right Mascot who truly embodies the qualities of Calgarians. This special friend is hard working, a long-time volunteer and community builder – someone who makes things happen.
“I am pleased to announce that Buddy the Beaver of Calgary, Alberta will be the Official Mascot of the 2019 Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw at Stampede Park, this November 20 – 23.”
“What an honour to be chosen as the 2019 Grey Cup Festival Mascot,” says Buddy the Beaver with a sharp slap of his tail. “I was busy designing a dam expansion when I received a note to contact Mr. Macleod. I had no idea I was even being considered for this important role! What an honour. Although Fall is my busy season, I was coming to the Grey Cup already and can’t wait to now be the official Party Animal for Canada’s Biggest Party. I’m really hoping to get a new jersey out of the deal.
“Word on the river is Calgarians know how to throw a world-class event! I can’t wait to get to Calgary to cheer on some great football, tailgate with my best BBQ clover & grass treats, and party with fans of all ages coming from across North America to this year’s Grey Cup!”
Buddy is taking a break from his busy construction and woodworking business to be part of the excitement of the 2019 Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw. This respected Albertan was chosen as this year’s Grey Cup Mascot in recognition of his architectural contributions to our community, as well as his celebrity lineage; Not only is his Great Grandmother pictured on the Canadian nickel, but his cousin was the Grey Cup Festival Mascot in Edmonton last year.
“To get prepared for the 40+ events, I’m high-tailing in for my annual vet check-up next week. I am naturally nocturnal so I’m practicing staying up during the day so I’ll be ready to party day and night with fans of all ages,” says Buddy flashing his toothy smile. “I’m even working on my tail-slapping applause for the big game.”
“I’ll be at Stampede Park the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 20 to help kick-off the festivities. You’ll find me somewhere on the Park until the wee hours of Saturday, Nov. 23. Then I plan on heading over to McMahon Stadium for the celebrations on Sunday.
“I am looking forward to meeting everyone and having tons of fun! Anyway, got to go. See you soon.”
The 107th Grey Cup Championship Game presented by Shaw kicks off at 4 p.m. MST on Sunday, Nov. 24 at McMahon Stadium.
