Grey Cup Festival Presented by Shaw Welcomes 15 New Partners and Seeks 1,000+ Volunteers

With just three weeks until tickets for the 106th Grey Cup presented by Shaw go on sale, the Grey Cup Festival 2018 organizing committee announced 15 new partners, unveiled a new major attraction and parade, and officially launched volunteer recruitment.

Premier Partner Coors Light and Gold Partners Edmonton Events, Syncrude, Node Scaffold Services and adidas have come onboard for the Grey Cup Festival to bring fun and exciting events to fans in the week leading up to the game.

Also announced, Silver and Bronze Partners belairdirect, Fisherman’s Friend, GTR Turf, Konica Minolta, Kubota, mbna, Mark’s, Twisted Tea, Tourism Jasper, and William Huff.

The Grey Cup Festival will take place on Jasper Avenue from 99th to 96th Street in the week leading up to the CFL Championship game, where football fans from across the nation will gather for the biggest party of the year.

“Back in February, we announced three major attractions for our Festival – the EPCOR Street Ski, jiffy Lube Tube Slide, and the Capital Power Zipline,” said Duane Vienneau, Executive Director of Grey Cup Festival 2018. “Today, we are proud to announce a fourth attraction with a six-storey bungee jump,” he said. “Activations of this scale and size in downtown Edmonton would not be possible without our partners at Node Scaffold Services,” says Vienneau.

“All four of these exciting attractions will be housed within the Grey Cup Festival Live Active Edmonton Park, a partnership with the City of Edmonton,” said Vienneau.

The Coors Light Concert will take place on the Saturday night of the Festival, November 24, and will feature some of Canada’s top talent. “Coors Light is thrilled to be an official partner of the Grey Cup Festival in Edmonton,” said Taras Hetmanczuk, Vice President, Sales West Region. “As a proud supporter of the Edmonton Eskimos for over 25 years, we wouldn’t miss the chance to be part of the festivities – especially in our own backyard.” Coors Light will also have the official pouring rights at the Grey Cup game and the Grey Cup Festival.

The Syncrude Mini Field, featuring GTR Turf, will be complete with painted lines, uprights and sideline boards. “Syncrude is pleased to be part of the 106th Grey Cup Festival by bringing the Syncrude Mini Field to downtown Edmonton alongside many exciting events,” said Kara Flynn, Syncrude Vice President, Government and Public Affairs. “This fun and family-friendly experience will be a central attraction for fans leading up to the big game.” The mini field will be programmed by Football Alberta from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day of the Grey Cup Festival, beginning with youth football in the morning and ending with adult flag football at night.

Always a crowd-pleaser, the Grey Cup Parade will be a highlight of Grey Cup week, taking place Saturday, November 24 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Broadcast by Global Television, the parade will begin at 108 Street and Jasper Avenue, and will head Eastbound to 101 Street. Entries for the parade are now being accepted online at greycupfestival.ca.

“To run an event of this size, it takes great partners but it also takes great volunteers,” said Brad Sparrow, Co-Chair of the Grey Cup Festival. “Edmonton has a reputation for being a host city with a strong volunteer community, people who are passionate and experienced,” he said. “Today we start the search for 1,000 volunteers to help us execute the best Grey Cup and Grey Cup Festival, and to deliver an unforgettable event for all attendees.”

CFL partner adidas, will be outfitting the over 1,000 volunteers in warm-weather gear for the Festival.

Edmonton holds the record for the fastest sell-out in Grey Cup history, selling out the game in just six days last time they hosted back in 2010. It’s a record the local organizing team is keen to beat.

“We’ve said from the start that our goal is to beat our own record,” said Len Rhodes, President and CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos and Co-Chair of the Grey Cup Festival. “Edmonton Eskimo season seat holders and all other CFL team season ticket holders had first access to purchase their tickets to the 106th Grey Cup and they responded overwhelmingly,” he said.

Tickets for the 106th Grey Cup presented by Shaw go on-sale Friday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. MST at ticketmaster.ca. Tickets include free ETS transit to and from the game.

The 2018 Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw will kick-off on the evening of Wednesday, November 21 and will run through to Saturday, November 24. The 106th Grey Cup presented by Shaw kicks-off at 4:30 p.m. MST on Sunday, November 25. Fans can visit greycupfestival.ca for more information.

Grey Cup Festival Presented By Shaw To Bring The Heat to Jasper Avenue in 2018!

On February 2, the Grey Cup Festival 2018 organizing committee announced the first of their Premier and Gold Partners, unveiled the “Bring The Heat” theme, and the location for the 2018 event.

Presenting Partner Shaw, Premier Partners Boston Pizza and Nissan, and Gold Partners Capital Power, EPCOR, Jiffy Lube and Tim Hortons, have joined forces with the Grey Cup Festival to bring fun and exciting events to fans in the week leading up to the game on November 25, 2018.

“We are thrilled to have these organizations partnered with the Grey Cup Festival,” said Duane Vienneau, Executive Director of the Grey Cup Festival. “We plan to make the 106th Grey Cup presented by Shaw the best one to date, and we can only be successful in doing so with the tremendous support of these great partners.”

In 1997, it was a Party In Your Parka; 2002 brought us Wild ‘n Wooly; Edmonton was Hot to Huddle in 2010. “In 2018, we are encouraging fans to Bring The Heat to the downtown core as we throw the hottest party of the year.”

Jasper Avenue from 99th to 96th Street will be Grey Cup Festival central in the week leading up to CFL Championship game, as football fans from across the nation gather for the biggest party of the year. “Edmontonians are passionate Canadian Football League fans,” said Mayor Don Iveson. “We intend to bring this same passion and enthusiasm to the 2018 Grey Cup Festival. It’s time to bring the heat!”

The Nissan TITAN Street Festival will be located along Jasper Avenue

The Tim Hortons Kick-Off Party will be held on the Festival site on the evening of Wednesday, November 21.

The hugely successful Capital Power Zipline returns to the Grey Cup Festival in 2018.

New to the Grey Cup Festival in 2018, will be the EPCOR Street Ski and the Jiffy Lube Tube Slide activations.

“The Grey Cup is more than a game – it’s an iconic Canadian celebration – and EPCOR is thrilled to be a part of the excitement,” said EPCOR President and CEO, Stuart Lee. “This year, we are bringing the EPCOR Street Ski to the festivities, creating a mountain ski experience – in Edmonton’s amazing river valley.”

“Like the Grey Cup, Jiffy Lube is Canadian made and owned. Jiffy Lube is committed to supporting people, sports and business in the communities we live and work in,” said Kelly McClung, Vice President, Marketing and Operations with Jiffy Lube. “The experiences at the Grey Cup game and festival will forever be a memory for those attending and watching and the Jiffy Lube Tube Slide will be one of those memories. We are counting down to the fun in November!”

The Boston Pizza Sports Bar and Outdoor Tailgate will be party central.

“Edmonton Eskimo season seat holders have first priority to purchase tickets to the 106th Grey Cup, immediately, before general public tickets go on-sale Friday, June 1,” said Len Rhodes, President and CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos and Co-Chair of the Grey Cup Festival. “Edmonton still holds the record for the fastest sell-out in Grey Cup history, selling out in just six days back in 2010, so we know tickets are going to be a hot commodity.”

The 2018 Grey Cup Festival will kick-off on the evening of Wednesday, November 21 and will run through to Saturday, November 24. The 106th Grey Cup kicks-off at 4:00 p.m. MST on Sunday, November 25.
